Mellow and soulful side
Wah Wah 45s are proud to present Watching The Stars, the fourth single taken from Afro-dub warriors Soothsayers’ latest album, Tradition, which was released earlier this year to press praise and heavy radio support from the likes of Rodigan (BBC 1Xtra) through to a host of DJs on BBC 6Music including Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe, Don Letts, and Craig Charles.
As well as the original cut and radio edit, this single package boasts a brand new Dub version and Lagartijeando Remix.
“Watching The Stars” showcases a more mellow and soulful side of the band, to complement their often strident, politically assertive style. It was co-written by singer Julia Biel (a MOBO and BBC Jazz Award nominee, among other plaudits and recognition worldwide) with her partner – and Soothsayers band leader – Idris Rahman. With flavours of jazz and soul dancing atop the dub foundations, and characteristically alluring Soothsayers horn riffs, it’s a compellingly beautiful and bittersweet song.
Deep, cinematic electronics
The remix, by hip Argentinian producer and DJ Lagartijeando – whose “Caboclo” EP has been causing something of a stir amongst tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music) and Tim Garcia (Jazz FM) – spotlights his unique combination of percussive samba beats and deep, cinematic electronics.
