“Hado Deeli” is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming “Kontonbili EP” by Ghanaian – UK outfit Isaac Birituro & The Rail Abandon. Following on from the successes of their first two LPs, “Kalba” and “Small Small”, the transcontinental group return with the first song to be taken from a seven track EP that traces the traditional West African roots of their sound whilst adding their unique touch, largely courtesy of Isaac’s xylophone, Sonny Johns’ folky embellishments and the vocal prowess of powerful Ghanaian songstress Wiyaala.
The title “Hado Deeli” roughly translates to “My Rival” and is a vibrant discussion between two rivals, one of whom is always making a fuss about anything and everything, even when things are all good! The kind of person that makes a habit of pointing out the negative side of everything he or she (in this case) is given to do.
With a strong fanbase in Ghana and beyond, Wiyaala made her mark on Wah Wah 45s and BBC 6 Music last year when she featured on the A-listed “Senye”, described as “perfection” by Annie Mac and “pure joy!” by Tash LC.
The “Kontonbili EP” is set for release on July 28th. Artwork comes courtesy of Animisiewasz.

“I love Issac Birituro and the Rail Abandon AND Wiyaala This is an interesting progression for both – very understated after their Senye collaboration tho not untypical for AB & RA and quite a change for Wiyaala . It’s so lovely that she is allowing herself this different range … and very fine within this fabulous reuniting. The music allows for both space and focus and is beautiful. Fabulous full stop!” Debbie Golt (Resonance FM, UK)

“Followers of Isaac Birituro & The Rail Abandon will recall that they had a track on thier ‘Small Small’ album called ‘Senye’ that featured Wiyaala. As it was so successful, it was only a matter of time before we had more. And this EP is lots more. The “Ghanaian songstress” is so expressive with her vocals, she is a perfect match for Isaac’s xylophone and Sonny John’s “Afrolktronica” (a healthy mix of folk, highlife and soul).” Gerry Hectic (You And The Music, UK)

“Wiyaala is inarguably an African star in the making, her vocal is forceful, powerful, musical, containing a soul-softness and gentleness which some of her more famous sisters don’t seem to achieve. More reminiscent of Makeba than Kidjo. Isaac Birituuro & The Rail Abandon are a musical phenomenon about whom I’ve waxed lyrical previously, suffice to say (again) that I’ll be mourning their absence when we go up to DJ at Belladrum at the end of July.” Drummie Dave (Various, UK)
