Following on from last year’s much loved State Of Play EP, London house producer Medlar reinterprets two of the highlights from this unique project with Afrobeat Ambassador Dele Sosimi with new mixes aimed firmly at the dance floor. The result is two hypnotic, groove-based deep house versions for the early hours.
The All About The Dance remix features some new psychedelic synth workings from Dele, whilst the Lord Have Mercy update gives centre stage to Tamar Osborn’s winding saxophone solo, underpinned by Detroit inspired synth chords and skippy drums. Both mixes have been inspired by the duo’s move to a more club-driven DJ & keys hybrid/live show in recent times, so expect to hear some exclusive versions, alongside many others, in their sets going forward.

“Great – will play.” DJ Lamp (Coalition, UK)
“There’s an African timing to keyboard playing here that few people from different cultures can emulate (Cubans aside). Dele has it in spades and the swing as the player lingers behind or pushes hard at the rhythm with millisecond timing is what gives the tune life and turns this from a dancefloor groove into a classic. Osborn’s playing on Lord Have Mercy similarly twines itself around the root sound in smoothy, sinuous waves – it’s bound to have dance floor appeal. Very satisfying stuff, we’ll be trying it out on the good folk north of the border on Thursday night.” Drummie Dave (Various, UK)
