Wah Wah 45s are proud to present the third single from a lady who’s been causing quite a stir of late, the powerhouse vocalist and lyricist Lea Lea. AK-47 is typically challenging in its subject matter, tackling as it does the Mexican drug wars and their effects, something Lea Lea had a little experience of whilst travelling and writing her eponymous debut album, released on Wah Wah 45s last autumn.

Having wowed audiences all over with uncompromising live show, and recently worked with Hospital Records artist Other Echoes on his forthcoming LP, this young lady has had a very busy 18 months or so, and 2014 sees the collaborations continuing, with North London duo Man Like Me contributing a stunning Sour House remix (a style devised by their label boss, Mike Skinner, AKA The Streets) and scorching hot U.S. producer Paul Basic giving AK-47 some proper Dub Step treatment.

Encourage Dialogue

Oh and don’t overlook Lea Lea’s canny cover of the Talking Heads creepy classic Psycho Killer too for a very modern and alternative take on Byrne and co’s sinister single from 1977.

Lea Lea’s sassy style has drawn comparisons to Missy Elliot, MIA, Kelis and Grace Jones, but she’s really a one-off – at once alluring, charming and commanding. Writing songs that encourage dialogue and challenge female stereotypes, whilst being thoroughly entertaining, Lea Lea thrives on the darker side of music yet delivers her songs with an infectious warmth.

Modern in style, dramatic in production – Lea Lea is the new queen of dark electronic soul. Look out for her at both the Dimensions Festival, Croatia and Southern Soul Festival, Montenegro this summer!

Reactions

“Love the “Man Like Me” remix!” Julien Mourlon (LDBK, Belgium)

“Always somethin’ special from Lea Lea! The remake of Psycho Killer is…absolutely genial! And Man Like Me made an incredible remix of AK-47!” Cesare Cera (Black Mighty Wax / Irma recordings, Italy)

“Man Like Me remix is awesome!! Full support!” Diesler (Buried Treasure, The Soup Kitchen, Manchester, UK)

More Reactions

“Ace single from Lea Lea,  AK 47 was always a favourite of mine, but the remixes have done a great job in turning an anthemic original into something a bit more friendly.” Pimpernel Jones (Herma Puma, UK)

“The quality of production on this release is superb. The main thing I love about this tune is that you have all of these distinctive sounds, Lea Lea’s amazing vocals included, coming together in a beautiful fashion whilst being teased by the scattering sound of an infamous Russian rifle, which enters and leaves from the arrangement as it pleases. ” Tyrant http://officialtyrant.com/music/lea_lea_ak_47.php

“”Psycho Killer” is a beautiful track & was on last week’s show.” Simon Harrison (Basic Soul, UK)

“Luvin this! Wicked psycho! Full support.” Tom Wieland (7 Samurai, Austria)

“Thank you for the latest promo-link! A nice release from Lea Lea, love the Paul Basic Remix and the track ‘Psycho Killer’.” Sven Thomschke / ‘Dr.Best’ (Radio Z, Germany)

“What an amazing vocal talent, loved it.” 8/10 Andy Sharp (UK)

“The man like me rmx is dope!” Georgios Paroglou (It’s Just Music! Greece)

“As always real powerful stuff from Lea Lea with my have cut being the original although I really dig the Man Like Me edit. Also that is a real powerful reinterpretation of Pyscho Killer, which I have always loved as a track. Will definitely be dropping it on my next Radio Show.” DJ Mr Lob (Australia)

“Lea Lea could sing over anything and make it sound compelling. Man Like Me mix is doing the business for me.” John Cush (UK)

“Awesome! I will be smashing this on the beach” DJ Flic (Bali)

“Lovely little release this one, really liking Psycho Killer, the title is slightly deceptive to the feel of the track, very nice laid back tune with great production. Really liking the Man Like Me remix of ak-47 too, will be giving both spins on the show this week and for coming weeks. BigUp!” Mike Shea (Kane FM, UK)

“Like it a lot!” Markus Milz (Further In Fusion, Germany)

“Original: Absolutely Cool comes to mind to describe this track with it’s cool vocals, cool beats, arrangement… is just really cool. Well done with this release. I’ll support on my show. Man Like Me Remix: My favourite of the remixes with its foot tapping goodness. Total transformation of the original. Good job, I’ll be supporting.” DJ Nelson Ramalho  (UK)

“Man like me-Remix is such a great feelgood 90s House Groove that’ll make me happy even if I’m alone on the dancefloor!” HP (Mojo Club, Germany)
